Slow food events

Slow food in the province of Brindisi

La Locanda di Nonna Mena actively takes part in slow food events, which are organised from time to time. In fact, our restaurant ranked among the 20 best restaurants in Italy in a competition that involved more than 1700 restaurants.

What they say about us

Here's what they say about us in the Osterie d'Italia Guide written by Slow Food:

“Just a stone's throw from the post office, in a small street where in summer it is also possible to dine outdoors, in 2008, the Errico family transformed the old house owned by Nonna Mena into a small and charming inn. Luigi and his sister Mariolina welcome customers into their tranquil dining room, furnished with sober elegance and with paintings that testify to the past. The kitchen is managed by their brother, Toni. The atmosphere is homely, the dishes are simple and genuine. The menu changes frequently but, among the appetisers (9 €), capocollo di Martina Franca, cheeses from regional dairy producers in Alto Salento, mashed beans and chicory, stewed or roasted vegetables, hot meatballs or freshly fried bread. To follow, bean soup, orecchiette made with Senatore Cappelli wheat with turnip greens, fusilli with pesto of new beans and chopped almonds (€ 8), and cavatelli with mussels and salicornia. Among the main courses, the excellent roulade of meat with sauce but also the boneless and stuffed rabbit with seasonal vegetables and capocollo (€ 9) and, based on daily availability, the roast fish from the nearby marine reserve of Torre Guaceto. Among the desserts (€ 3.50), accompanied by homemade rosoli, an excellent dry pastry, sweet tarallini, dried almond figs, Ceglie Messapica biscuits (Slow Food favourite). The wine list relies on excellent regional wineries. "
